The pupil count in January provides pupil numbers for the following year's budgets. Prior attainment uses the results from the previous key stage assessments. Disadvantage is measured using the index of multiple deprivation, based on the home post codes of each pupil in the school.
Schools therefore receive more money if they have more pupils, if those pupils have a lower level of prior attainment, or if the pupils are more disadvantaged.
