Leicestershire Operating Authority is offering the following training opportunities to Duke of Edinburgh workers and volunteers.
Outdoor Training Weekend
This informal weekend offers the opportunity to develop new skills for young leaders doing Gold Award Leadership as a Service or leaders interested in developing their outdoor skills. The weekend will involve walking in Wild Country, supervision, emergency scenarios etc. The weekend will be very practical and will give you the chance to meet others working with the Award and with similar interests.

Introductory Expedition Workshop
This evening workshop aims to familiarise new leaders or volunteers with the expedition section of the Award, and the practical skills needed to assist with the instruction and supervision of Bronze and Silver expedition groups.

Mountain First Aid Course
This is an appropriate course for supervisors working with groups out on expedition. It is recognised by both the MLTB and BMC for their mountaineering, hill walking and rock climbing qualification courses. The course is also recognised by the BCU and RYA and all organisations requiring a full 16 hour assessed course. The course is run as a training and assessment programme of theoretical and practical nature with a formal assessment at the end of the weekend.
All successful students who have completed all elements of the training will be awarded a certificate which is valid for three years.

Supervisors Accreditation Course
This course has been designed to accredit leaders who have some experience of instructing and supervising. Further information will follow in due course. Please contact Natalie Dixon to register your interest on 0116 305 6344.
New Leader/Group Induction to the Award
Tailored training for small groups of workers or volunteers, who are interested in finding out more about the Award, is available with your local Award Co-ordinator. Find out how the Award can be used to accredit the achievement of young people, what is involved in setting up a group, look at resources and support materials available.

Minibus Tests
If you wish to drive a minibus to transport young people, you must complete the LEA approved minibus competency test. To undertake a minibus test your driving license must have been issued before 1st January 1998.
