What's it all about?
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for anyone aged 14 - 24. Doing DofE gives young people the opportunity to experience new activities or develop existing skills. There are three progressive levels which, when completed successfully lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award. There are four sections at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold.
The best bit is, because you get to choose what you do, your programme can be full of activities and projects that you really enjoy. Participants select and set objectives in each of the following areas:
| Volunteering | Physical | Skills | Expedition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undertaking service to individuals or the community. | Improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities. | Developing practical and social skills and personal interests. | Planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad. |
| Residental |
|---|
| At Gold level participants must do an additional fifth Residental section, which involves staying and working away from home doing a shared activity. Each section must be done for a minimum period of time and each progressive level demands more time and commitment from participants. |
