Beaumanor Park Education Centre

                   

In 1974, the Hall was purchased by Leicestershire County Council and is now an educational centre for children and teachers. Amongst other activities, K.S.2 children from far and wide come to learn about W.W.2 and the Home Front, the people who worked at Beaumanor and their vital, though quiet, role in the conflict. Groups come for up to 3 days to live the life of an evacuee, learning to ‘make do and mend’, survive an air raid underneath the Hall, go to wartime school, eat wartime food and sleep in dormitories.

As a tribute to the people who once worked at Beaumanor, the staff of the Leicestershire Outdoor and Residential Learning Service, together with local enthusiasts, have set up a radio station and resurrected the original call sign. This station will be operated, in part, by school children from Leicestershire. Our call-signs are G3MBR and GX3BMR

So far we have acquired, through donation and purchase, several working receivers of the types which were at Beaumanor during WW2. We are especially proud of our Hallicrafter ‘Skyrider’, R.C.A. ‘AR88’ and National H.R.O. radios which are switched on most days, for the benefit of visiting school groups.

We are always very happy to talk to anyone who has knowledge or memories of Beaumanor during the war and especially of its links with Bletchley Park * and we are delighted to welcome anyone interested in visiting Beaumanor.
