Aberglaslyn Hall Outdoor Learning Centre
News Report June 2009
Summer is now progressing and we have recently had quite a dry spell, broken yesterday with a bit of a downpour, much needed.
The Welsh Highland Railway is now full steam ahead and can be heard at regular intervals as it makes its way up and down the Aberglaslyn pass to and from Beddgelert. When walking to Beddgelert the steam trains make a fine sight as they now run along the newly re-established track bed and emerge from the long tunnel, steam blowing and whistles hooting.
In the grounds the nest boxes have been really well occupied with pied flycatchers. At least three within sight of the hall now have chicks in. The photo below was taken from the front door. A mink was spotted in the gorge and evidence of a good otter population is great to see.
Pochin Primary School are in this week and have, like many groups, gone rock pooling. The group were actually delighted to see the rain yesterday as it has filled the gorge a little, ensuring great entertainment for this afternoon.
As the summer holidays approach people may be interested in day activity sessions we are offering for anyone in the area over this period. There is also a family course running at the end of August. If any of these opportunities interest you please just give us a ring or e-mail us.
