Celebrating Music - 60th Anniversary Year

1948-2008

Welcome

1948
“In 1948 there began the Saturday morning routine which has continued without pause for these 21 years. There were about 60 players, mostly strings, with only one cellist and very few violas, one flute, one oboe and a host of brass wind…week by week, I added fresh members to the orchestra, just as soon as they could blow or scrape well enough to make a tolerable sound”
Time to Remember by Eric Pinkett published on the 21st Anniversary of the County School of Music in 1969.
1970 A Drama and Dance Advisory Service is established to provide teaching support for schools and Youth Dance and Youth Theatre provision.
1993 There is an amalgamation of the County School of Music with the School of Dance and Drama into the Arts Service of the Local Authority.
2008
Today Leicester-Shire Arts in Education reaches over 25,000 children and young people. Throughout the week, in and out of school time, they have learning opportunities with Leicester-Shire Arts in Education specialist teachers in music, dance and drama. The young people have opportunities to perform in an extensive performance programme.
A range of professional development activities and curriculum support is on offer for staff working in schools, colleges or other settings. The Saturday morning tradition remains 60 years on: bands and orchestras continue and the wider brief of the organisation is reflected through ballet and dance groups, Indian music and dance, Steel Pans and Youth Theatre groups.
We hope you will be able to join us at one of our celebratory events showcasing Leicester-Shire Arts in Education ensembles.
