Mind the gap

With the introduction of the Early Years Foundation Stage just months away the Early Learning and Childcare Improvement team have produced a pack to help with one of the key elements of the framework – transition.

Transition put simply means a change which may have an impact on a child. This might be a big shift in their life – like going to pre-school for the first time, or maybe a small daily change – like moving from a childminder to a playgroup.

‘Mind the gap’ is a set of booklets which were first launched at the Early Years Foundation Stage Conference 2008, and are full of ideas and guidance for childcare providers to help children through transition. The pack is full of simple ideas to help make transitions as stress free as possible.
