Stories!
Dear Laura, My favourite story was Cinderella. Love, Grandma
A letter to a boy from his grandparent about his favourite book when he was a child.
A letter from a grandparent about a favourite book.
"A teacher's success in helping a child to learn is directly related to his or her knowledge about the child"
(Rosemary Roberts 2002 p15)
What the children did
The children shared their favourite stories and books, in pairs, groups and with adults. Parents and carers were invited into the setting to share favourite stories with small groups of children. The children and carers worked together to produce letters, asking other family members what their favourite stories were as children.
Learning outcome
The children began to develop an understanding that people have different views and preferences. They developed respect for these differences. They strengthened their sense of self, as they confirmed their own preferences, likes and dislikes. They began to explore and develop themselves as part of a group. They began to appreciate the similarities and differences between their own family and their friends' family.
Dear Grandma and Grandpa, Can you tell me what was your favourite book when you were a child? Love, Simone
