Leicestershire Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT)

Leicestershire Drug & Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is a Partnership of the following agencies:
  • Health Services
  • Children & Young People’s Services
  • Adult Social Care Services
  • District & Borough Councils
  • Probation Service
  • Police
  • Prisons
Leicestershire County Council is part of this partnership and also hosts the DAAT team for Leicestershire.
The role of the DAAT consists of co-ordinating local action against drug misuse and commissioning local drug treatment services.
Since January 1998, Drug Action Teams have been pursuing the national strategy laid out in Tackling Drugs Together to Build a Better Britain. This has four broad aims:
  • YOUNG PEOPLE : To help young people resist drug misuse in order to achieve their full potential in society;
  • COMMUNITIES : Protecting communities from drug-related anti-social and criminal behaviour;
  • TREATMENT : To enable people with drug problems to overcome them and live healthy and crime-free lives;
  • STIFLING AVAILABILITY: To stifle the availability of illegal drugs.
More information on the work of the DAAT and plans for Leicestershire can be found on the recently updated DAAT website.
