Need help in changing abusive behaviour?
'Loving Without Abuse' is a self-help guide for individuals taking a first step
towards changing their abusive behaviour.
The guide is available for those individuals’, male or female who are seeking support
in changing abusive behaviour and recognising the impact of this behaviour on others. The guide encourages
individuals to seek help, access further support and emphasises that changes can be made if one chooses
to.
Two women a week die as a result of domestic violence and research shows that one
in four women will experience domestic violence at some point in their lives. It is important for victims
to know support is available but it is equally important to highlight that those who abuse others can
choose to stop.
Please note the guide does not aim to cure abusive behaviour, nor does it offer
a programme, nor is it a guide to be used in place of a structured programme. It is a resource for people
wanting to change.
We strongly recommend that any professional wishing to use this guide with clients/service
users offers support and guidance to both the individual and their family. Useful numbers and contacts
of support for those using the guide and for family members can be found on page 16. We also recommend
that those family members, including partners are made aware that the individual is using the guide
and that both parties access appropriate support.
The guide can be obtained from the Domestic Violence Team at Leicestershire County
Council on 0116 305 6906 or the Domestic Violence Integrated Response Project on 0116 255 0004. Please
also use these numbers if further information is needed or if you wish to provide feedback on how useful
the guide has been.
