Domestic Violence Awareness Week 2007

The campaign theme for Domestic Violence Awareness Week 2007 was 'Mind, Body and Spirit', and this was reflected in the campaign posters.
Mind poster  This poster represented the impact of psychological abuse
Body poster  This poster represented sexual and physical abuse
Spirit poster  This represented spiritual abuse
This campaign also incorporated an art event 'Awakening' to evoke thoughts and feelings around domestic violence'. This was on display at the Ashby Library Exhibition Space, Ashby De La Zouch., between 26th November and 7th December 2007, and then in the Member's Lounge at County Hall for a further week.
If you wish to find out more about work taking place across Leicestershire to address domestic violence, please contact the Domestic Violence Reduction Co-ordinator on 0116 305 6017. If you are interesting in volunteering, please contact the Support Services directly

Summer 2007

Will YOU be covering up this summer?

The County Council, in conjunction with other local authorities launched a summer campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence and the support that is available to victims.
As part of the campaign posters and postcards displayed on the website were distributed across Leicestershire to raise awareness of this issue.
Domestic violence affects one in four women and one in six men in their lifetime and at least 750,000 children each year in England and Wales witness it. (Women’s Aid)
The summer can cause extra pressure on families and relationships. The warm temperatures, increased alcohol consumption and school holidays can all lead to an escalation in domestic violence. This campaign aims to encourage victims and perpetrators not to cover up this damaging crime but to come forward and get help this summer.
There are a number of organisations across Leicestershire that can offer help, advice and support to those experiencing domestic violence. To receive confidential help, advice and numbers of local services, please contact the Domestic Violence Helpline Number on 0116 255 0004 or Women’s Aid’s 24 hour helpline on 0808 2000 247.
In an emergency, call 999.
