Service Standards and Feedback

The Registration Services department want to provide you with the best possible service. In order to ensure we do this we have service standards, plans and feedback whereby we can continuously improve our service for you.

Our Promises to You

  • to encourage customer comment, suggestion or complaint and consider appropriate changes within the service
  • to publish details of our actions arising from customer comment, suggestion or complaint
  • to address special needs whenever possible.

Our General Commitments are:

Births and Deaths:
We will endeavour to offer an appointment to see a Registrar to record:
  • a death - on the day requested or at least within 2 working days
  • a birth which has occurred in the Leicestershire Registration District - within 3 working days (Declarations for births which have occurred in another Registration District - 5 working days)
Marriages and Civil Partnerships:
  • to offer you an appointment with a Superintendent Registrar within 4 working days of making contact with the office
  • to provide the choice of Register Offices and Approved Premises for wedding ceremonies
  • to take provisional bookings for weddings up to 2 years in advance.
Copies of Certificates can be obtained from registers deposited at County Hall.  These include: -
Urgent requests dealt with on the day the request is received. If certificate is required the same day, please telephone 0116 305 6565 first to arrange an appointment, and to ensure we have the relevant record. The certificate will be prepared on your arrival at the office, usually within the hour.
Urgent applications in person must be received at least one hour before close of business. Please note this service is only intended for genuine emergencies.
Normal requests dealt with within 3 working days of receipt, at the County Register Office, County Hall, of a valid application* and the required fee.
Copies required for genealogy / research dealt with within 5 working days of receipt, at the County Register Office, County Hall, of a valid application* and the required fee.
*i.e. including wherever possible the exact day and place of birth, death or marriage.
Requests can be made in person at the County Register Office, Glenfield, Leicester, or an application together with a cheque or postal order for the required fee, can be left at any one of the six main outstations (please allow extra time for requests left at outstations). Postal applications should be sent to the County Superintendent Registrar at the County Register Office, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire LE3 8RN.
Copies of certificates of births, deaths and marriages from current registers can be obtained from the office at which the event was registered.
  • Telephone Calls
Our target time for answering telephones is 12 seconds. An out of hours answer phone is available.
  • Letters
We will answer 90% of all letters within 2 working days. If a detailed response is required we will try to provide a full reply within 20 working days.
