Copy Birth Certificate

If the birth took place in Leicestershire and you need a copy of the Birth Certificate you should apply to the Leicestershire Register Office by letter, in person or by completing our application for a birth certificate form and sending it to us at the address below.

The certificate can be collected from the office or can be posted out to you.  

This service is only available if the birth occurred and was registered in the County of Leicestershire.

Copy certificates for events which took place in the City of Leicester are only available from the Leicester City Register Office. Telephone 0845 045 0901 or website http://www.leicester.gov.uk/registration

You will need to supply the following information:

The cost for a full copy Birth Certificate is £9.00, a short copy Birth Certificate is £9.00 (please note that short birth certificates are often not accepted for personal / business purposes).

If you are writing to Leicestershire Register Office your cheque or postal order should be made payable to ‘Leicestershire County Council’ and a self-addressed stamped envelope should be included with your application.

Please allow 3 to 5 working days from receipt of request to process your application.
