Checklist for Collecting your Wedding Dress

Every bride to be wants to wear the dress of her dreams on what should be one of the happiest days of her life. However, dreams of a perfect day can be shattered if problems are encountered when the wedding dress is collected.
To help we have put together the following checklist to help brides-to-be avoid any distress.
  • After choosing your dress ensure that you obtain a written invoice or receipt containing full details of your purchase including the model, style, design of dress, any bridal accessories and the total price to pay.
  • Be clear about any additional costs that are not included, for example charges for any alterations. If you order a made-to-measure dress but at your fitting you find that further alterations are necessary, a charge could be made for the work or it may be included in the original quotation as the supplier took your measurements when you first placed your order. Ask for this to be put in writing when you order the dress.
  • As a precautionary measure, obtain full details of the proprietor of the bridal business in case problems do arise.
  • Collect bridal wear in good time before the big day, this will ensure you have plenty of time to sort out any problems if they do arise.
  • When collecting wedding or bridesmaid dresses make a point of checking them over thoroughly for any faults before you leave the premises. If the dresses are ready to collect in bags ask for them to be removed from the bags so that you can check them over properly.
  • If possible, pay some of the cost on a credit card as this will give you added protection if something goes wrong or if the shop closes down. The credit provider is equally responsible with the supplier for any breach of contract or misrepresentation if the item costs over £100.
If you have any worries or concerns about bridal wear that you have bought or ordered please contact your local Trading Standards Service.
