Ceremonies and Services

Leicestershire County Council offers a range of celebratory ceremonies and services
which have been developed to bring your families and friends together, to celebrate special events or
express or re-affirm your commitment to your family, children, partner, wife or husband.
These ceremonies
have no legal status;
they can contain no religious references and may be as public or as private as you wish.Also

Naming Ceremonies
A Naming Ceremony is a very special way of celebrating the birth of a child or of
welcoming an adopted or step child into a new family, or a new family environment.

Renewal of Vows
These ceremonies offer an opportunity for any married couple, of any age or length
of marriage, to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a unique and personal ceremony.

Commitment Ceremonies
These ceremonies are for both same-sex and heterosexual, when marriage is not a
preferred or currently available legal option and where couples wish to make a public or private commitment
to each other.

Change of Name Service
In the UK anyone can change their name if they want to. There are however some restrictions
about what you can change your name to and why.

British Citizenship Ceremonies
Becoming a British Citizen is a significant
event in your life. As a British Citizen, you are joining a community made up of many different backgrounds,
cultures and faiths.All persons over 18 years of age applying for naturalisation or registration as
a British Citizen will have to take a citizenship oath and pledge at a citizenship ceremony.

Nationality Checking Service
The Leicestershire Registration Service, in partnership with the Home Office, is
offering a checking service for British Nationality application forms.
Applicants for British citizenship are able to visit, by appointment, to have their
applications checked by staff trained by the Home Office and registered by the Office of the Immigration
Services Commissioner.

Settlement Checking Service
The settlement checking service is a partnership between the UK Border Agency, and
Leicestershire County Council
If you are applying for settlement in the UK on form SET (M) the service will give
you assurance that you application is complete and you have paid the correct fee. The settlement checking
service will help you get your application correct first time and avoid unnecessary delays.

Approved Premises Licence
In addition to the ceremony rooms at Leicestershire Register Office, there is a
full list of approved premises in Leicestershire. If you own a hotel, restaurant or other prestigious
building in Leicestershire then why not consider licensing your premises for civil marriages and partnerships.
