On display from 23 February until 16 April 2010

Girl Guiding 1910-2010

Calling all Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows – past and present!

Girl Guides image 1
In the 100 years since Agnes Baden Powell established her Girl Guides Association thousands of local girls have been pushing the boundaries, enjoying new experiences and having their voices heard through the Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.
Girl Guides image 2An exhibition charting this fascinating story will be officially launched by the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Roger Wilson CC, on 22nd February 2010.  It opens to the public the next day at the Record Office, in Long Street, Wigston Magna, until 16th April 2010.  Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, Mr Roger Wilson CC said:
“This is a wonderful display of interest to everyone – not just those who were Guides, Brownies or Rainbows. It has certainly been a century of great changes and even greater achievement.”
Girl Guides image 3The exhibition includes a wealth of photographs and memorabilia of Leicestershire and Rutland’s Guides, Brownies and Rainbows from the earliest days to the present.  See Leicestershire’s 1st Guide Company on parade, listen to memories of past Guides and let your taste buds run riot over the camp menus!  What was the first Guides’ badge?  What colour was the first Brownies uniform?
Gather round our toadstool and find out!
The exhibition is free and may be seen at the Record Office during normal opening hours.
