Facilities Further Details

Car Park for visitors
Snibston has a private car park, with room for coach parking.
There are 10 disabled parking bays in the car park at the front of the main entrance.
Doors into the main foyer entrance are automatic.

Cafe onsite
The Café is located in the foyer on ground level.
Seating can be easily moved to suit your requirements. Staff are on hand to assist you in any way such as carrying your tray to your table and reading the daily menu out to you.
If you have special dietary requirement please do not hesitate to ask.
Picnic benches are also available outside on the Science Play area.

Gift shop onsite
Snibston has a well stocked Gift Shop, offering a wide range of merchandise to help remember your Snibston visit.
The shop is easily accessible on the ground floor.
Should you require any assistance a member of staff will be on hand from the admission desk to help you.

Toilets onsite

There are toilets onsite for visitors.
Century Theatre - Please note that there are no toilets in the Century Theatre, therefore the nearest conveniences are located at the rear of the gallery approx 20 meters from the theatre front door.

Disabled toilets onsite

There are wheelchair accessible toilets at Snibston.
There are two unisex accessible toilets and a baby changing facility in the museum foyer.  A third unisex accessible toilet is located at the rear of the museum building, near the two locomotives
The Education Unit is fully equipped with an accessible toilet.

Wheelchair accessible site

Main Exhibition Galleries - All the Indoor Galleries are located on the ground floor with good flat easy access for all.  
Mezzanine Gallery - There is a fully equipped lift, suitable for wheelchairs to give access to the upper area along with two separate stairways.
Science and Adventure Play (Outdoor Play Area) - The Science Play Area has a flat Astroturf type floor surface and easy access for all. The Adventure play areas surface is bark and sand based so not suitable for wheelchairs.
Colliery Tours - As a former working Colliery, there are some uneven surfaces and stepped areas but friendly and helpful tour guides are on hand to assist. We are pleased to offer special tours adapted to suit the needs of different groups and adapted tours can be based around multimedia and object handling workshops. Pre- booking required.
Train Rides - We have a sloped platform here at Snibston Station with tactile flooring. A helpful train crew is always on hand to assist. A ramp is available to ease getting on and off the train for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs.
Century Theatre - There is an electric lift located at the front of the Century Theatre to ease access to the main foyer. Indoor ramps create easy access around the theatre. There is priority seating for wheelchair users near to the stage.
Education Unit - Our education unit has a sloped main entrance allowing easy access to the building.
We offer free wheelchair hire which can be booked upon arrival at the admissions desk or in advance.
Assisted wheelchair users welcome

Assisted wheelchair users are welcome in the museum.
Low counters onsite

Low counters are available in the museum.
Assistance dogs allowed onsite

Assistance dogs are welcomed to Snibston. We kindly ask that they are kept on a lead at all times, and drinking water is available on request.

Induction Loop onsite

Some of the staff are trained in British Sign Language and are also able to give a sensory tour. Due to staff rotas please ring prior to your visit and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Century Theatre - An induction loop is installed in the Century Theatre auditorium.
Conference rooms - We have two Conference Rooms located in the foyer on the ground floor. Both rooms have hearing loops.
Support for the people with a visual disability

Some provisions can be made for people with a visual disability. Please contact Snibston to find out more.

Staff assistance is available throughout the site and grounds.
