Sari competition

Design a British Bridal Sari

National competition. Free entry.
A bride always remembers what she wears on her wedding day. Could you create a sari for a British bride?
The British Sari Story 2008 competition is offering a £250 top prize for a design for a British Bridal Sari. Do you have a vision of a sari showing the hopes, dreams and experience of a British Asian bride?
Bridging Arts Logo
Send a piece of fabric (about 20cm/8 inch square) decorated with your patterns, beading and embroidery to Bridging Arts. Finalist’s work will be shown at the British Sari Story exhibition at Charnwood Museum from 3 October to 30 November 2008 and then form part of the touring exhibition.

150 years of British Summer holidays: saucy postcards, sandcastles, Victorian bathing carriages, spa resorts, ‘Kiss Me Quick’ hats, sticks of rock and knotted handkerchiefs. Dig for treasure in our sandpit. Deckchairs, buckets and spades provided!

Future Bright: An NHS Open Art Show

Thursday 4 - Sunday 28 September
Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust presents it’s first ever open art show, featuring work by some of the most inspiring artists in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The exhibition will demonstrate how art - creating or viewing it - is a great way to improve your wellbeing.

The British Sari Story

Friday 3 October to Sunday 30 November
An exhibition celebrating the sari - the wonderful garment worn by South Asian women everywhere. The pattern, design and fabric of saris speak volumes about the women who wear them. This exhibition presents traditional saris from around South Asia and new saris with 21st century designs, including the winning entries from the British Sari Story competition. This national contest sought out new patterns that reflect the vibrancy of British Asian life today. The winning designs from the British Bridal Sari competition will also be on display.

Picture Poetry with Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze

Create Too: 2.00pm - 4.00pm. Come and write poetry inspired by Future Bright - The NHS’s first open art show. Led by the internationally acclaimed Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze. CreateToo is Charnwood Museum’s inspiring art and craft workshop programme for adults. Pre-booking essential. £5 per person, £2.50 concessions
