Forthcoming Inset, meetings and events 2010
How can picture books make us better thinkers?How can we engage all children in the classroom, not just the more able or the more vocal? How can we help all children to recognise that each one of them has something significant to add to the understanding of the whole class? This course offers a taster of Philosophy for Children (P4C) and shows how we can help children to use their enquiring minds to develop their creative and critical thinking. Tuesday 9th February 2010 (9.30 - 3.30) Key Stages F/1/2 P4C booking form Book buying opportunityLibrary Services for Education arranges regular trips to a library supplier to help schools to purchase books more effectively. Transport is provided from Rothley Crossroads to Peters in Birmingham, the biggest children's library supplier in the country, Peters will give a discount of 15% on books purchased to schools attending the trip. A minimum spend of £500 is usually expected. Lunch is included and an LSE librarian will be available to give advice. Thursday 25th February 2010 Key Stages F/1/2/3 Peters trip booking form Creating effective library displaysA repeat of a successful course, run by the Alternative Display Company, a team of professional display artists who teach participants to create eye-catching displays on a limited budget. Equally applicable to non-library situations, this practical and enjoyable workshop is always enthusiastically received by teachers and library staff and has become a regular feature of our Inset programme. Tuesday 2nd March 2010 (9.45 - 3.00) Key Stages 1-4 Creating effective library displays booking form Meeting for library staff in secondary schools and collegesThis is a termly meeting for library staff in secondary schools and colleges. Acting both as a user group for LSE and a support group for school library staff, it provides an opportunity to share good practice and discuss issues of common concern and interest regarding school library provision.
