National Year of Reading
Each Month the National Year of Reading has a theme:
April Read All About It! Get reading newspapers and magazines this month. Why not join your local library - look out for the NEW membership campaign.
We start the NYR with a launch party on Friday 4th April, County Hall, Glenfield. 12.00noon - 2.00pm
May Mind & Body Libraries are focussing on Helathy Living this month. Take a holistic approach to improving your health. Check out Adult learner's Week 17th-23rd - try something NEW at your local library. Enjoy a Cultural Diversity Day
June Reading Escapes Borrow from your library this summer and enjoy great holiday reads! Why not try a talking book for long summer journeys?
July Rhythm and Rhyme Why not 'wax lyrical' this month and enjoy poetry, poems and lyrics on display. Indulge yourself in writing song lyrics and make the most of your library.
August Read the Game We recommend Classic Sporting Reads this month! Join in the celebrations of the Beijing Olympics. Plus the fantastic Summer Reading Challenge, Team Read
September You Are What You Read Get a cultural, personal and local identity this month! Join a Family History session, look closely at your village website and discover something new!
October Word of Mouth Why not sample reading aloud and storytelling with live literature. Experience the Family learning Festival. Have you ever sampled a Talking Book? Now is the time!
November Screen Reads Explore the diversity of reading and writing take a browse through scripts, TV news and films. Take out a DVD from your library or enjoy the 'Book of the Film' booklists on display.
December Write the Future Are you a Blogger? If so, sample the blogs across the county by using library computers! Now that you've been reading in all kinds of places this year - keep it up and you could be looking forward to another great reading year!
