Using the Library Computers

You will Need a library card and a Personal Identification Number (PIN); please ask staff if you do not have these. A PIN can be sent to you in the post.

If you want to use the computers regularly but do not want to join the library, staff will give you a computer only card and order a PIN which will be posted to you.

Booking in advance

You can book a computer session via the Internet at the library or from any computer with Internet access at http://pcbooking.leics.gov.uk/netloan

You will need your library card and PIN to book.
Staff are on-hand to provide assistance with the booking screen.
You can book a computer up to two weeks in advance at any library listed.
If you have booked a computer you will be able to log-on at your pre-booked time using your library card and PIN number. The computer will show your name.

If you do not book in advance and a computer is available, you will be able to log-on using your library card and PIN number. The computer screen will tell you how much time is available before the next booking.

Time Limits

There are set time limits for computer sessions – usually 1 hour or ½ hour at peak times.

During your computer session, the screen will show you how much time remains, and will warn you shortly before you are logged-off automatically. If you finish early, please log-off the computer yourself using the log-off icon.

Printing from the Computer

You can print from Library computers for a charge.

Please note: we do have an Internet users policy which you will find on screen when you login. Other full policies on use are available in the library.

Guidelines for connecting you to safe surfing

NEVER tell anyone you meet online your address, your telephone number or your school’s name
NEVER send anyone your picture, credit card or bank details
NEVER arrange to meet anyone without checking with your parent or carer. Make sure they go along with you to meet them.
NEVER give your password to anyone – not even your best friend.
NEVER stay in a chat room if someone says or writes something that worries you or makes you feel uncomfortable.
Treat other people as you would like to be treated – don’t shout or get angry.
Take care of younger children. Remember the library belongs to everyone, and that other people can see what you are looking at on the computer.
