Achievements in 2007 - 2008
- Achieved 9 out of 10 Public Library Service Standards
- Built New Libraries at Braunstone Town and Mountsorrel
- Refurbished Ashby, Earl Shilton, Bottesford, Desford and Groby Libraries
- More customers are visiting our Libraries and taking out more books.
- We have achieved the Quality in Study Support Standard for our provision of resources for young people doing homework.
- Enabled parents and carers to receive their Bookstart Plus Packs
- Attracted over 10,000 children to the Summer Reading Scheme
- Offered learning courses through our access centres
- Ran weekly Wriggly Readers sessions for under 5s
- Maintained 4 stars for Culture as part of the Government’s Comprehensive Performance Assessment, one of only 20 authorities to do so
- Made our website easier to use
- Consulted with our customers about our mobile library routes and helped them run more efficiently
- Install free internet access on our mobile libraries
- Introduce a new set of information about the library services
- Run more events on Saturday afternoons
- Build a new library at East Goscote
- Move Oadby Library to newly refurbished premises
- Relocate Oadby library in improved premises
- Refurbish Groby, Barrow and Market Harborough Libraries
- Run the annual Summer Reading Challenge for young people
- Continue to run the Bookstart and Surestart services
- Continue to Improve our stock offer to customers
- Run the Short Story competitions
- Review our computerised library management system
- Review self service at our major libraries
- Introduce Chip and Pin payment at Loughborough and Hinckley libraries
- Offer a different range of newspapers and magazines in our larger libraries.
