Achievements in 2008 - 2009

Last year we:
  • Bought 150,000 books for the library service
  • Gave customers access to over 300 reference materials free of charge through our website
  • Continued to see rises in visitors and loans.
  • Achieved 9 out of 10 Public Library Service Standards. This is the final year of the standards, and Leicestershire is the only County library service to achieve this.
  • Introduced a new pack of information about library services in order to enable you to find out more about what the service has to offer
  • Replaced the library at East Goscote
  • Opened the new Oadby and Newbold Verdon libraries
  • Refurbished Groby, and Barrow Upon Soar Libraries
  • Opened the new Big Lottery funded Newbold Verdon library
  • Attracted over 11,500  young people to the Summer Reading Challenge
  • Enabled more parents to pick up their Bookstart packs
  • Awarded our first Leicestershire Children’s Book Prize
  • Broadcast our first podcast and videos online

In 2009 - 2010 we will

  • Introduce self service to our major 16 libraries
  • Open new libraries at Lutterworth and Barwell
  • Introduce an improved book catalogue which will make searching for books easier and more informative
  • Introduce free self service internet taster sessions through “My guide” online.
  • Seek your views by running the Adult Public Library User Survey (PLUS) in the autumn
  • Consult with you about how we continue to modernise the service
  • Introduce safe online environments for young people to chat about and explore books and writing.
  • Run Quest Seekers, the 2009 summer reading challenge
  • Introduce a new mobile library
  • Give you more information about mobile library stops by undertaking a promotional campaign
