Achievements in 2008 - 2009
Last year we:
- Bought 150,000 books for the library service
- Gave customers access to over 300 reference materials free of charge through our website
- Continued to see rises in visitors and loans.
- Achieved 9 out of 10 Public Library Service Standards. This is the final year of the standards, and Leicestershire is the only County library service to achieve this.
- Introduced a new pack of information about library services in order to enable you to find out more about what the service has to offer
- Replaced the library at East Goscote
- Opened the new Oadby and Newbold Verdon libraries
- Refurbished Groby, and Barrow Upon Soar Libraries
- Opened the new Big Lottery funded Newbold Verdon library
- Attracted over 11,500 young people to the Summer Reading Challenge
- Enabled more parents to pick up their Bookstart packs
- Awarded our first Leicestershire Children’s Book Prize
- Broadcast our first podcast and videos online
- Introduce self service to our major 16 libraries
- Open new libraries at Lutterworth and Barwell
- Introduce an improved book catalogue which will make searching for books easier and more informative
- Introduce free self service internet taster sessions through “My guide” online.
- Seek your views by running the Adult Public Library User Survey (PLUS) in the autumn
- Consult with you about how we continue to modernise the service
- Introduce safe online environments for young people to chat about and explore books and writing.
- Run Quest Seekers, the 2009 summer reading challenge
- Introduce a new mobile library
- Give you more information about mobile library stops by undertaking a promotional campaign
