Manga Cafe
Get to know more fans of Manga and Animé.
Manga Café is an informal, friendly group of Manga and animé fans that meets one Saturday a month at Enderby Library. Mainly we chat and eat snacks we’ve brought to share.
We’re quite a mix of ages and personalities, everyone fits in. You don’t have to commit to coming, some people come to most sessions, others just come occasionally. New people are very welcome.
Meeting times
We meet on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 - 2:00pm every 4 weeks. Upcoming dates:
- Saturday 16 August 1.00-2.00pm
- Saturday 13th September 1.00-2.00pm
- Saturday 11th October 1.00-2.00pm
This is an informal group, drop in - there's no need to book.
Next Session's focus
At each group we decide what to do in future sessions. For example to focus on a certain anime or manga. Keep an eye out here for anything you need to know before the next meeting:
16th August
At the last session we were low on numbers, so we mainly just chatted, but we did build an anime cool wall and look at the backstories a couple of people had come up with for the characters created in the consequences game last time.
We decided for next time to read a manga of the type we don't usually read. It was again suggested that people try to create their own short stories that we could compile together, perhaps if anyone wants to try to give that a go they could bring anything they manage to get started to the next meeting. We talked about eating some Japanese food again, but decided as their might not be many people around in August to save this for September's meeting.
Competition
In June's meeting we tried out storyboarding and captioning using stills from various animés. The ones I had didn’t have enough action shots really, which made it a bit harder, but the concept should work. The Competition idea then is this – using stills from any animé or manga (you may use them from a combination) create an original story. It’s probably easiest to create a 3 or 4 panel strip, but if anyone wants to try for something longer feel free, there’s no limit. Closing date October 2008. Prizes to be sorted nearer the time.
