Cybersafe for Parents

Being safe online is a key skill for anyone using the Internet. We want to be make the public aware of the potential risks of using the internet, e-mail and mobile phones, such as identity theft, cyberbullying, inappropriate contact through a social networking site and the mistaken downloading of disturbing images.
Children and young people are using the web to do a wide variety of activities, but may not understand the risks, or behave in a way that is thoughtful of other users. The idea of Netiquette is one way to encourage online safety. Parents, teachers and carers can also take some simple actions. These include:
  • Getting to know your children's online friends Taking an interest in what your child is doing online
  • Discussing clear rules about sharing personal information, such as images and activities, with your child
  • Ensuring that your child can talk to you when they feel uncomfortable about something they have seen online

How to Report Abuse
Being online and using the internet is just like being in the real world - you can chat to people, play games and share pictures. But sometimes things happen which can make you upset. People may say nasty things to you which upset you, or you may see something that you don’t like.
