Historic Buildings and Sites in Leicestershire

The County Council has a statutory responsibility to maintain records of listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments. Details of conservation areas and registered parks and gardens are also available, as well as from the district and borough councils. We work in partnership with the district Councils and other organisations to care for and manage the historic buildings and sites in Leicestershire, including;
Some of the above designations carry with them statutory controls and impose constraints on what may be done by way of repair and alteration
The Historic Buildings team answer planning enquiries about how a planning application might affect a special (listed) building or conservation area. We advise owners and local authorities on the materials and methods needed to protect and repair our local historic buildings.
We also distribute County Council grants that help Leicestershire business and home owners to repair and restore their historic buildings.
To find out if a building or structure is listed, or lies within a conservation area, or is a scheduled ancient monument, contact us using the contact details below.
