Modern Landscapes

Leicestershire's and Rutland's landscape has resulted from the interaction of  ice, wind and water over many millions of years on the rocks that previous periods have left behind.    Today the Charnwood Uplands, the north Leicestershire Wolds, the eastern Limestone scarps and the Leicestershire Vales are distictive areas based on the varying geologies which underly them.
