![]() Working with young peopleGetting involved in natural history and being outdoors holds fears for some young people while for others it conjures up images of experts, notepads and Latin.
Yet the CHI Wild Attitudes survey carried out in 2004 showed that young people across Leicestershire and Rutland valued the countryside as a place for peace, relaxation and for providing open space to see plants and animals.
For CHI natural history is about discovering and exploring who your wild neighbours are and the wildlife that is living in your area.
CHI is keen to work with young people to create a broad range of opportunities with hands on experiences to show you don’t have to be an expert to get involved with natural history. Projects would be based on the ideas and interests of young people.
CHI can help show that natural history can be fun and celebrated in a range of diverse and creative ways. For example, tracking wildlife at night or recording and mixing wildlife sounds.
![]() Help and advice is available from CHI to put a group’s ideas into action. Groups can use the CHI newsletters and website to tell people what they are doing. Exhibitions or shows can also be used to share the work with others.
To find out more, get in touch. Whether you are a youth worker or youth group we want to hear from you.
If you would like a copy of the Wild Attitudes report please email us to request one.
For people working with children aged 6-14 take a look at our Wild About Action Pack and the Collecting & Connecting project.
Due to funding we regret we are unable to work with schools, groups based in Leicester or groups based outside Leicestershire and Rutland.
