Leicestershire and Rutland Dragonfly Group
The Leicestershire and Rutland Dragonfly Group is an informal, non-subscription group of local enthusiasts, founded in July 2002. Our main aims are to record the dragonflies and damselflies of VC55, Leicestershire and Rutland, and to collate information gathered for the use of conservationists and wildlife organisations. The group also provides a focal point for local enthusiasts and a number of meetings have been held to discuss recording and mapping issues.
The Group is essentially based around an Internet Website, which was in fact the catalyst for its creation. The Website currently contains a library of digital photographs, all taken in the county, together with a number of articles on interesting occurrences and identification features. It also has a detailed section covering recording, which includes standardised recording forms and instructions on how these should be completed.
During the flight season the Website is regularly updated with the latest county dragonfly news and photographs. We hope to add species distribution maps over the coming months, as well as articles on interesting and useful dragonfly sites.
Details of meetings, both indoor and outdoor, are posted on the Website. The Leicestershire and Rutland Dragonfly Group Website address is: www.lrdg.org.uk
