Wildlife photos 2007

A bee orchid This bee orchid was growing in the middle of a lawn in Bottesford in June 2007.
Ruth Iley photographed this eyeless toad in her garden in June.  Experts had never seen anything similar.

Orange ladybird

This orange ladybird was found in November.  This species was once rare in Leicestershire, but has become more widespread in recent years.
Alan Hedger found this grasshopper on his sleeve in Swepstone Coppice.

A grass snake

This grass snake was spotted by Neil Mawby at the Ford and Slater truck dealership at Fosse Park.  He recorded footage on his mobile phone and sent it in to the centre for identification.
"This is the slow worm that appeared in my garden about three weeks ago.
Because we have two dogs we let him go over the fields at the back of our house. He obliged by slipping into a bucket for this."

A grass snake caught in netting

Den Lewis found this grass snake caught in netting after having a meal in Whetstone in June.
"I managed to photograph two reptiles in one day!"
