![]() ![]() Animal trackingIn August 2007, a group of young people from Castle Donington took part in an animal tracking event at Beacon Hill Country Park organised by CHI and led by one of the Park Rangers. Eleven young people between the ages of 13 and 16 years spent the afternoon doing a variety of activities which helped show them how they could use their four senses - sight, hearing, smell and touch to track. They also learnt how to identify animal tracks and signs.
Outcomes
Although the boys enjoyed the session more than the girls, all said they would want to come back to Beacon Hill for a walk and a picnic.
Comments from the young people included:
From the youth worker:
"I am not sure if you realized, but only one person in our group had ever visited Beacon Hill before, and none knew anything about the area. This I feel is a most surprizing thing, since they live so close. Not surprizing perhaps - but nevertheless significant, I think - is that all had been to Alton Towers (more than once) and all but one had been to Spain, all had visited other countries at least once in their lives."
