Heritage Services Policy Documents
The Museums Service and the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, have been working to review and develop their strategies and policies in light of local, regional and national priorities and agenda.
In 1997, the Heritage Service underwent extensive consultation with local communities, to define an overarching strategy for the Service that provided the framework for the first four years of what was then a new organisation. Following a review of this in 2003, four key areas were identified: Collections Management, Learning and Access, The Open Museum and our work with Independent Museums. Strategies were developed for each of these areas.
The Service's Vision, a vital element within each of the strategic documents, is also provided here, as is, for the sake of completeness, a list of relevant sites and services currently provided by Leicestershire County Council and its operational partners.
In defining and developing our strategies we have considered new and emerging policy frameworks at national level, particularly Renaissance in the Regions, the Archive Task Force and Inspiring Learning for All. Each policy area has been drawn together as a result of consultation with users and stakeholders and is presented here with the support of the County Council's Cabinet and its Lead Member for Community Services. We are also integrating performance management systems into the work of the Service as a whole, and especially focusing on measurement of impacts and outcomes.
