three archaeology sections; community archaeology, museum collections and planning, recording and characterisation.

The county has a diverse range
of habitats for plants, mammals, birds and insects. The Ecology team advises on how to conserve or enhance
biodiversity.

Leicestershire and Rutland have
some of the oldest and youngest rocks in the UK.

Historic Buildings
Leicestershire
has a number of impressive historical buildings. Although some are privately owned and run, others are
available to view by the public.

Regionally Important Geological Sites
RIGS were created to identify and protect the most important geological (and geomorphological) sites.  See RIGS for more details.

Partnership for Environmental Protection
The group was set up to bring local authorities, agencies and the voluntary sector together to discuss environmental issues.  See PEP for more details.

Nature Conservation Forum
The
meetings provide nature conservation, wildlife and environmental groups
a
chance to meet and hear about the latest news about conservation related policies, local projects and
the work of agencies to protect and conserve the natural heritage and wildlife.

HNE Team Information
The Historic and Natural Environment Team was created to make local heritage information more accessible and is developing
systems to make the information available to many more people. It also has a dedicated making
links with local communities, groups and individuals across both counties.
