Located in the heart of the National Forest, off the road from Donisthorpe to Ashby de la Zouch, Oakthorpe Picnic Site comprises of 14.8 acres (six hectares) of mixed habitats including natural regeneration woodland, maturing woodland tree plots, semi improved grassland and wildflower areas. The site is home to a wide range of both flora and fauna.
There are surfaced paths suitable for all users and pedestrian into the neighbouring 98.8 acre (40 hectares) Willesley Wood, managed by the Woodland Trust.

- Please note: there is a height restriction barrier of 2m at the entrance.

Features of Interest
- Surfaced paths suitable for all users, but wheelchair users will require assistance due to inclines.
- Natural regeneration of colliery site, creating a haven for wildlife - good for bird watching.
