Education for Adults

Helping Your Child with Learning

Family Reading Campaign The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity that aims to change lives through literacy.
Young Gifted and Talented The new national programme provides extra support for children and young people who have excelled in a particular area, to learn faster than others or may have high potential but are underachieving. Information on where to access resources for all gifted and talented learners aged 4 – 19 years
Libraries Anyone can join, however young, and its free. As a member you can choose from a huge range of fantastic services available in libraries across Leicestershire.

Home Education

Home Education Parents do have the right to educate their children at home. Parents must ensure their child receives fulltime education from the age of 5.
Education Otherwise A membership based organisation that provides support and information for families whose children are being educated outside school.

Pre-schools

Pre-schools All three and four year olds in Leicestershire are entitled to 15 hours of free early learning and childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year. Please refer to pages 15 to 18 of the Information for Families, Parents and Carers leaflet.

Attendance and Improvement Service Attendance and  Improvements Officers (A&IOs) work closely with schools, families and students, placing a high priority on partnership and joint working in order to foster positive relationships and identify and assist children with school related problems including truancy and attendance issues.
Student Finance Student Finance England administers financial help for students. It provides information and guidance to students and their parents and assesses a student’s eligibility and entitlement to support for their course of study. Call 0845 300 5090.
The Psychology Service One child in twelve is discussed or seen by an educational psychologist at some point in their school life as a result of concerns about their progress in schools. This can only happen with the parents consent.
Free School Meals Pupils registered at any school maintained by Leicestershire County Council may be eligible for free school lunches

School Support

EMASS
The aim of the Service is to work in partnership with schools, parents and other agencies to raise the achievement of minority ethnic pupils by:
  • Supporting bilingual pupils' English language development
  • Ensuring equal access to the curriculum, thereby assisting minority ethnic pupils to achieve their full potential
  • Devising suitable teaching materials and strategies to enhance pupils' learning
  • Strengthening links between parents, schools and the community
  • Promoting effective parental involvement in pupils' learning.
