Independent Visitors

An Independent Visitor befriends young people in foster or residential care, who have no regular contact with their birth families. A visitor’s role is to meet with a young person to listen, support and have fun.

Visits and outings are usually monthly. These visits can vary from a few hours to a full days outing.

Some independent visitors may continue to befriend throughout a young person’s teenage years as stability and continuity are important values to model for looked after young people.

Visitors can be any age, gender or race with a whole different range of interests and hobbies.

You don’t need any special qualifications but do need to have the ability to be a good friend and listener to a child who may have had a difficult start in life and who may need time to learn to trust another adult.

We are looking for people who are willing to make a long term commitment to this role ideally for as long as the young person needs you. A clean driving licence and police checks are required. All mileage and expenses are paid.
