Coalville Team Are Runners Up In National Final

A team of four children from King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville won the second prizes in a national consumer quiz final in Edinburgh last week. It was a thrilling competition and they narrowly missed winning by just one point. They had led the final from the first round but were pipped at the post by the eventual winners from Oxfordshire.
The Consumer Challenge Quiz is an annual event for children with moderate learning difficulties and the aim of the quiz is to raise awareness of consumer issues for young people. The teams faced questions on a variety of subjects including consumer rights, signs and symbols and food matters.
The King Edward team clinched their place at the regional final at the Space Centre, Leicester in March where they were joint winners in a competition with teams from across the East Midlands.
The finals took place at the National Trading Standards Conference, which this year took place in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
David Bull, Head of Leicestershire County Council Trading Standards Service, said ‘ This was a great experience for the children, as well as helping them to become confident and knowledgeable consumers. I congratulate them on doing so well in this national competition.  They and their school can be very proud of their achievement.’
