Too Much Packaging?

Have you bought or seen a product that you think is over packaged? Obviously, packaging must do the job that it is designed to do – i.e. contain, protect and present the product.  However environmental considerations should also be built into packaging design.
The Law says that packers must limit packaging weight and volume to the minimum adequate amount to maintain necessary levels of safety, hygiene and acceptance of the packed product by the consumer.
If you think that a product you’ve recently seen or bought is over packaged please help us to help the environment by  reporting it to Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06, giving them as much of the following information as possible:-
  1. Name (& address if available) of the seller
  2. Description of the product, (name, make, size etc)
  3. Name (& address if available) of the manufacturer
  4. The cost of the item
  5. Details of the problem
  6. Do you still have the packaging?
  7. If so (and it is possible and hygienic), will you be able to keep the packaging for two weeks in case the Trading Standards Service needs to contact you to collect it from you?  If you have heard nothing within this time, please dispose of it carefully.
  8. How can we contact you?
