Service Plan - Our Role and Purpose 2011/12

Leicestershire County Council is the largest council in Leicestershire, providing a wide range of services directly to local people, or through other organisations on its behalf.
The overall aim of the Trading Standards service is to ensure a fair and safe trading environment, which promotes the well-being of citizens and allows businesses to prosper.

Our service priorities for 2011/12 are:-
  • Over the next four years, implement a reduction in service levels in accordance with the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy
  • Make better use of sources of information about trading practices to support ‘intelligence led’ enforcement
  • Maintain access to the Service and sources of intelligence in the light of possible changes to Consumer Direct
  • Contribute to the Council’s work on community budgets as it impacts on alcohol abuse, tobacco control and a reduction in levels of obesity
