Support and Seduction

Saturday 28th May 2011 - Sunday 13th May 2012
Three hundred years of practical, fashionable and seductive underwear for men and women. Taken from the Museum’s important fashion collections this exhibition includes eighteenth century stays, Victorian corsets and crinolines, Edwardian combinations, 1950s waspies and 1970s Y fronts.
The display will explore our relationship with the most intimate parts of our wardrobe from its design, manufacture, promise and attraction.

Held in the Fashion Gallery's Changing Room.
Usual museum entry Prices apply, however entry to the Fashion Gallery is free two hours before closing each Wednesday.

The Blind Fiddler - Home Entertainment 1806 - 2012

Saturday 14th January - Sunday 11th March 2012
Playing cardAn exhibition brought together by artist Paul Conneally.
Paul Conneally, transform's Cultural Forager, discovered that The Blind Fiddler was painted in the kitchen of Coleorton Hall Farm in 1806 - the same farm that the great poet William Wordsworth lived in with his familly. The picture was commissioned by Sir George Beaumont and given by him to the nation and now forms part of the TATE collection.
The exhibition will feature artefacts held by Leicestershire County Council's Museums Service, new works by Conneally, other artists and local communities where the picture was originally painted.

An Exhibition of Mining Couture

Installations within the Snibston galleries by Transform artists Claire Barber and Steve Swindells.
A series of works exploring the connections between the language, tools and textures associated with the mining heritage and extensive fashion collection at Snibston.

Drawn to Danger

Saturday 24th March - Sunday 10th June 2012
Exploring the work of five contemporary War artists, who have either experienced conflict at first hand or in their capacity as war artists or serving officers. Their experiences are often described as "living life at the sharp end". Some works are a documentation of conflict while others are a response to events and experiences.
Matthew Cook is an illustrator for the Times who has also served in the Territorial Army, Arabella Dorman has completed two tours as an official artist for the British Army in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jules George completed a two week tour of Afghanistan that resulted in an exhibition and a sale at Bonham's to raise funds for "Combat Stress". Doug Farthing is a retired officer who still works for the army - painting in his spare time - some of his works are completed on re-cycled ammunition boxes. The fifth and final artist is Steve Pratt a retired SAS officer who was featured on the Culture Show documentary in November last year - Art for Heroes - investigated veterans who are using art therapy to counter past traumas.
