Emergency Management

In accordance with the Civil Contingencies Act, theCounty Council continues to work closely with our partner agencies, through a body known as the Local Resilience Forum.  This forum is a multi-agency group committed to making Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland a safer place by ensuring that we and our partners can respond effectively when incidents do occur.Cossington Mill Locks under water
The Civil Contingencies Act replaced both the Civil Defence Act 1948 and the Emergency Powers Act 1920, and addresses the contingency planning and emergency management responsibilities of local authorities and other agencies, such as the emergency services, as well as providing the framework by which the government may invoke emergency powers.
The purpose of the Local Resilience Forum is to ensure effective delivery of those duties under the Civil Contingencies Act that need to be developed in a multi-agency environment.
