Drawn to Danger

Saturday 24th March - Sunday 10th June 2012
Exploring the work of five contemporary War artists, who have either experienced conflict at first hand or in their capacity as war artists or serving officers. Their experiences are often described as "living life at the sharp end". Some works are a documentation of conflict while others are a response to events and experiences.
Matthew Cook is an illustrator for the Times who has also served in the Territorial Army, Arabella Dorman has completed two tours as an official artist for the British Army in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jules George completed a two week tour of Afghanistan that resulted in an exhibition and a sale at Bonham's to raise funds for "Combat Stress". Doug Farthing is a retired officer who still works for the army - painting in his spare time - some of his works are completed on re-cycled ammunition boxes. The fifth and final artist is Steve Pratt who was a Senior NCO in the SAS (1969-1981), obtained a purchase discharge and was featured on the Culture Show documentary in November last year - Art for Heroes - investigated veterans who are using art therapy to counter past traumas.
