SHIRE Community Climate Change Grants

Applications for 2012/13 are now being accepted. Grant applications must fall into one of the three categories:
  1. Energy Audit - 75% up to £1000 and 50% of the cost over £1000
  2. Events/Training courses for communities - 50% of the cost up to a maximum of £2,500
  3. Practical Installation Projects - Either 20% or 50%*

About the Grant

SHIRE Community Climate Change Grants are for Parish Councils/Meetings and Town Councils, local community groups, faith groups, charities and village/community building management committees.
SHIRE Community Climate Change grants are available for projects in Leicestershire (not Leicester City or Rutland) and can assist with a variety of schemes as long as they help to improve energy efficiency and reduce the potential impacts of climate change.
Grants put local people at the heart of the community with the choice, decision making and leadership for community improvements, placed firmly within communities themselves.The process is set out in Community Involvement (pdf).
Projects might include:
  • Energy audits of community buildings.
  • Installation of energy efficiency measures such as new heating systems, roof or cavity wall insulation, water conservation systems, solar power systems or wind turbines.
    • Training courses run for the community relating to energy efficiency/climate change.
  • Community events relating to energy efficiency/climate change.

Who can apply?

Parish Councils/Meetings and Town Councils, local community groups, faith groups, charities and village/community building management committees.

What grants are available?

Grants can provide up to:
  • 75% of the cost of a professional energy audits up to £1000 and 50% of the cost over £1000
  • 50% of the cost of community events or training up to a maximum of £2,500
  • Either 20% or 50% towards of the cost of practical installation projects*
The maximum grant available per applicant is £5,000 in any one financial year.
There is no minimum value for the works. However, applicants must be able to provide the balance of the money for the works, either from their own funds or other grant schemes or a mixture of both. Applicants must be able to demonstrate on their application form how they intend to raise the balance of funding. In-kind donations and volunteer contributions can also be taken into account.
Note: In any 12 month period the maximum combined grant amount requested from any County Council managed grant programme must not exceed 75% of project costs.
* Applications for practical projects to replace existing equipment in buildings such as gas boilers or standard double glazing are unlikely to be offered more then 20% toward the cost of the project.
