Face-to-Face with the King: Richard III Facial Reconstruction Exhibition

'A Bit of Rough and Tumble'

Tuesday 11th June - Saturday 27th July Mon - Fri 11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm. Sat 10am-4pm.

Exhibition illustrating a range of Medieval sporting pastimes from spectacular jousting tournaments and popular hunting pursuits to early forms of ball games. It demonstrates how some sports were not only for pleasure but were important training opportunities for battle and warfare.

Festival of Archaeology Preview Event

Saturday 22nd - Saturday 22nd June 10am-5pm

This year's Archaeology Festival will start with a special preview event featuring historical re-enactors and stalls manned by local heritage groups. We also welcome Dr Kevin Leahy for an illustrated lecture on Anglo-Saxon treasures such as the Staffordshire hoard during the evening. Meet historical re-enactors and inspect their kit and chat to members of local heritage groups from around the county and find out how to get involved.

From Palisades to Palaces: The Medieval Castles of Leicestershire and Rutland

This exhibition celebrates and explores the famous and less well-known medieval fortified sites in the area. Most people have heard of Ashby, Kirby Muxloe, Belvoir and Oakham Castles, but did you know there were castles at Ravenstone, Whitwick or Sapcote and more than ten others? Includes objects found on castle sites around the County.

The Face of Richard III
